چکیده

Pipelined Processor Farms (PPF) are a generic parallelprocessing structure suitable for continuous-flow, multialgorithm applications. PPF has been redesigned for a multimedia workload which is multifunctional and multimodal. A dynamic object-based processing structure is implemented which will map onto mobile stations. The PPF processing model with asynchronous message-passing in a multi-threaded environment is in effect a version of the actor paradigm which is a dynamic form of encapsulated system. Stable software facilities for distributed object-based systems which may include reflection are also needed. The supportive facilities of Java remote method invocation (RMI) are currently being used by PPF. PPF and RMI have been wedded together in a software toolkit, providing a development environment which includes performance prediction, analysis, and guided code generation.

Fine-Grained Checkpointing in Distributed Object Systems

The paper discusses problems of checkpointing in distributed object systems and presents an algorithm suited optimally to their fine-grained structure. Usually, checkpoint algorithms assume nodes or processes as system units. This assumption results in a coarse-grained structure of checkpointing. We will show that this difference in granularity makes usual checkpoint algorithms inadequate. The ...

Space as a Semiotic Object: A Three-Dimensional Model of Vertical Structure of Space in Calvino’s Invisible Cities

Following the “spatial turn” of the last 3 decades in humanities and social sciences and the structure of semiotic object, this research studies space as the main semiotic object of Calvino’s (1972) Invisible Cities. Significance of this application resides in examining the possibility of providing a more concrete methodology based on the integration of Zoran’s (1984) 3 vertical levels of const...

Organic Computing als Konzept zur Steuerung interagierender Prozesse in verteilten Systemen

In this thesis a methodical approach is presented which is suitable for the goal-oriented design of complex systems within the framework of organic computing. The dynamical system approach pursued here is applied to semantic aspects of information processing that arise from a specific topological structure associated with the state variables of a complex system. While the pragmatic aspect of in...

Molecular Graphics of Convex Body Fluids.

Coarse-grained modeling of molecular fluids is often based on nonspherical convex rigid bodies like ellipsoids or spherocylinders representing rodlike or platelike molecules or groups of atoms, with site-site interaction potentials depending both on the distance among the particles and the relative orientation. In this category of potentials, the Gay-Berne family has been studied most extensive...

A Medium-Grained Algorithm for Distributed Sparse Tensor Factorization

Modeling multi-way data can be accomplished using tensors, which are data structures indexed along three or more dimensions. Tensors are increasingly used to analyze extremely large and sparse multi-way datasets in life sciences, engineering, and business. The canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) is a popular tensor factorization for discovering latent features and is most commonly found via ...
